So my gargantuan research into my next car project is still going...and something else has been added to the 'possible' pile. Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin / Pajero IO. Been seeing these fairly cheap and they definitely tick most of the boxes for what I want, but I don't know too much about how they developed. I heard some of them don't have the diffs etc for off-roading (not gonna be doing too much of that, but it will have to handle the rough stuff now and then), and I don't just want a 4x4 shaped car. Not sure if it was different spec levels or if it was later ones being softened or made to be cheaper..? Anyone with experience of these? I'm mostly looking for an earlier, higher spec one, 3 or 5 door.

I test drove the Kei car sized Pajero Jr not too long ago, even though I adore their quirky looks... It was a death trap. These on the other hand are lovely little Jeeps. Pretty comfortable, nice interior. It goes with out saying that they should be reliable.
I have driven two and they are really nice, quite light though.
This guy has done a few videos on the IO , may be some help.

Thanks for the vid :)
Any Kei car looks like a deathtrap, they're like fridges on barstool wheels! Have read that these have serious rust issues, I dunno how far that is beyond the usual Japanese rust stuff though. Will be taking someone with me to look at any who has serious 4x4 experience though :)

Some of them are hilarious though. I drove a Honda beat once, it was incredible. I highly suggest take someone who has a bit of knowledge about Japanese imports , thats what I did when I got my Civic coupe.
He actually brought a blacklight and a torch to check for any residue on the windows from tuner stickers.
